United Way of Cumberland County Announces New Executive Director

United Way of Cumberland County’s (UWCC) Board of Directors has named Amy Navejas, J.D. as its next Executive Director effective July 1, 2020.  Navejas, currently the CEO/Executive Director of Better Health, will replace Robert Hines, who is retiring after 16 years leading UWCC.

“The Board of Director’s would like to thank Robert Hines for his leadership during his years of service at UWCC.  As we wish him well during his retirement, we are very fortunate to have found an exceptionally qualified person locally to lead the United Way into a changing future” said Steve Blanchard, UWCC Board Chair.

Navejas has worked closely with UWCC over the years as Better Health has been the recipient of UWCC support as a community impact partner. “The UWCC is an important pillar in our community.  I am looking forward to working with our partner agencies, programs, volunteers and donors to mobilize the power of care in our community.  As we look to our fall campaign, I encourage each of you to consider getting involved and join us to make an impact locally, together” Navejas stated.

In her second year leading Better Health, Navejas raised their end of year bank balance to the highest in its 60 year history and tripled the highest on record in her third year.  During her tenure they added the Spring Lake Diabetes Clinic and began the Fayfit childhood obesity program.  Better Health’s most recent accomplishment is receiving American Diabetes Association Recognition in March of this year.

Navejas graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and Psychology.  She earned her Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from the Norman A. Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University. She has prior experience in non-profit management, case management, outreach, community events, human resources and professional development. Amy has also been an active board member for several local non-profits.
