FAYETTEVILLE – Cumberland County Government offices and the court system will close at 1 p.m. today due to impending severe weather. This closing includes all County Solid Waste landfills and container sites and Animal Services.
Anyone who has court scheduled for 2:30 p.m. today at the Cumberland County Detention Center should report instead to Courtroom 2B of the Judge E. Maurice Braswell Cumberland County Courthouse on Friday, March 19, at 9 a.m.
A fast-moving weather front is expected to bring severe thunderstorms to Cumberland and surrounding counties this afternoon. Damaging straight-line winds, large hail and a few significant tornadoes are possible hazards. The National Weather Service has revised the timeline for this weather to arrive earlier than previously forecast. It is now expected to impact the area from 2 – 5 p.m. Cumberland County Emergency Services urges residents to take precautions.
County Emergency Services is actively monitoring weather conditions in the Emergency Operations Center. Emergency Services is in communication and coordination with the National Weather Service, the local fire departments and other partners.
