FAYETTEVILLE - The U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting thousands of workers in Cumberland County for temporary jobs in advance of the . The Atlanta Regional Census Center reports there are 3,667 employment opportunities in Cumberland County. Currently, only 41% of those positions are filed.
The Cumberland County Complete Count Committee encourages interested individuals to apply for Census jobs during a special NC Works Bus Tour on Monday, Jan. 13, from noon to 5 p.m. in the Cumberland County Department of Public Health parking lot (1235 Ramsey St., Fayetteville). The bus is equipped with 10 computers so folks can apply for jobs on the spot and receive information about how to be counted for the Census.
The Census count is used to determine how much federal funding goes to communities and states and determines how many representatives in the U.S. House of Representatives each state gets.
Jobseekers may also apply online. The website allows applicants to apply for a range of positions, including recruiting assistants, office operations supervisors, clerks, census field supervisors and census takers. The positions offer flexible work hours, including daytime, evenings and weekends.
To be eligible for a 2020 Census job, applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a valid Social Security number and pass a background check.
